Revelation Christmas Party Venue
Revelation Middle East

A word from the editor

So, another great year is over. I hope that you all had a lovely break over Christmas and are enjoying a fantastic start to 2008!

The Revelation team certainly got into the Christmas spirit with our annual party. We choose the exclusive setting of Sudeley castle in Gloucestershire, and dressed up for the occasion in black tie. The backdrop of the banqueting hall, roaring open fires, beautiful floral displays, Christmas music and mulled wine was perfect to enjoy a delicious five course meal, accompanied by fine wine. We all had our own cottages set in the castle grounds, which where perfect for some late night partying, which shamefully included some excellent karaoke. The night also gave the Revelation team the opportunity to welcome Stanley, our General Manager from the Abu Dhabi office, who flew in especially for the party.

Revelation Christmas Party

The last quarter was a particularly exciting with lots of different type of events for Revelation. We produced Christmas parties, Conferences, AGM's, Exhibitions, Masterclasses, Award Ceremonies, a brand launch tour and even video production for the Sheikh Zayed Awards.

With the launch of Revelation Middle East in Abu Dhabi and Revelation UK experiencing huge growth, 2008 promises to be an amazing year. We definitely need more talented staff to work with us, so if you are interested then visit www.revelation-events.co.uk/recruitment

Whilst I have the opportunity I would like to make a couple of quick announcements; firstly congratulations to Rob who is now our full time HR Manager. We welcome Wendy as an event manager who comes from AXA and the City Group (Australia). Also a big well done to Simon who has completed his IOSH course in Managing Health and Safety in the Events Industry...your nickname 'Safety Simon' is now well earned!!

Finally, I hope you will have already received your funky desktop calendar that we sent out in December, but if not then please email funpeople@revelation-events.co.uk with your name & address (put Desktop Calendar in the subject) and we shall send one out. If you like the pictures you can also download these as desktop backgrounds from www.revelation-events.co.uk/downloads.

Happy 2008!

World travel market   What's Happening
World Travel Market

Revelation was thrilled this year to be appointed as production management company for the high profile World Travel Market organised by Reed Travel Exhibitions. Revelation were responsible for designing and building all elements of the stage and set that were in the main conference room, as well as designing, rigging and operating the sound and lighting used during the four day event. Revelation took responsibility for both producing and calling the event.

The Revelation team also managed a speaker preview room that provided presenters with a comfortable area that had a number of hi spec computers that were on a wired network linked to the computer in the main room allowing instant changes to be made to presentations.

In response to a feedback survey, we received 100% positive feedback on every aspect of our performance at the event with our calmness on site being noted as one thing that that we did exceptionally well.

World Future Energy Summit   World Future Energy Summit 2008 (WFES 08)

The first ever World Future Energy Summit is due to take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre on the 21st-23rd January. The high profile event will be attended by royalty, ministers, heads of state and company CEO's from all over the world. Along with a number of organisations from the UK, Prince Andrew and Prince Charles are due to address the audience as part of the opening ceremony.

Revelation is delighted to have been appointed as technical production management company for the conference. The team will be managing local contractors whilst organising and coordinating all elements of production such as the stage and set, lighting, sound, rigging, crewing, IT and infrastructure. We'll also be providing the AV equipment on all the exhibition floor features which include:

  • Time Out Pavillions - there will be 4 Nintendo Wii's in this area for people to play and take a break from the exhibition.
  • VIP Lounge
  • Media Centre - With 40 PC's and internet connection
  • Future Theatre - Seminar Room

The Revelation team will be responsible for ensuring that the programme runs to time, in addition to looking after all the presenters through the management of a speaker lounge where they will be welcomed, allowed to make amends to their presentations and can relax before they go on stage.

As an addition to the production management, we have also been asked to produce a specially commissioned video that will be shown at the World Future Energy Summit gala dinner being held on the 21st January. The film will feature the Sheikh Zayed Prize, a future energy prize which is one of the most prestigious environmental awards that one can win.

This is a massive honour for Revelation and we are very privileged to have been able to work on this project.

Spotme Telephone Hand Set   Innovation in Events - Making Science Work

In November, our MD, Matt Sims and General Manager, Zoe Swindell were invited to speak at the prestigious Making Science Work even hosted by South West Regional Development Agency at the HP Labs in Bristol. Matt and Zoe were asked to speak about the drivers for change in the events industry and showcase some of the new technology and innovations that are emerging.

They highlighted a number of technologies that were impacting the events industry, either by becoming more widely available and therefore more cost effective for event organisers, or by increasing the 'Wow Factor' of an event, such as:

  • Holographic projection - A 3D projection using a Victorian technique called 'Ghosting', essentially projecting a reflected image onto a 45 degree clear screen which creates a floating image - environmental pressures are creating a large demand for this technology.
  • Second Life - The creation of a 3D virtual world by its users. The first conference in Second Life was both live and onscreen during the real event. Virtual characters joined in the event by asking questions and interacting with humans.
  • Spotme - Personal PDA's that enable delegates at an event to interact with questions, voting etc, identify networking opportunities, view agendas, schedule meetings and to exchange business cards electronically.

Matt and Zoe emphasised that with technology changing and developing constantly in every day life audiences at events will be far savvier to technology offerings and therefore will demand an experience each time they attend an event. However, the exciting thing is that the use of innovative technology creates a much higher perception of value for the face to face communication that has been experienced and so should provide a high return on investment experience for organisers.

BPL Business Media - Comms Vision

Background

BPL Business Media's range of services include publishing, events, digital media, databases & analysis. They offer their readers and clients a range of marketing products based on quality, up-to-date technology news content, analysis, and in-depth business information. The publications they produce are dedicated to providing readers with key information that they require to make business decisions about IT.

The Comms Vision conference attracts senior executives from leading channel companies enabling them to come together and share knowledge on topics related to the future success of their businesses. The event was first launched last year and the client was so impressed with the results, shortly after they confirmed Revelation as conference production company for the 2007 event.

Solution

For the second year running the conference was held at Gleneagles, Scotland and with Revelation again appointed as conference production, the team had the experience of both the venue and of the brand to help make this year an even bigger success.

As part of their role, the Revelation team were responsible for providing the AV and on-site technical support in each of the rooms used during the event. They were also required to manage the filming that was taking place throughout the event to ensure that the important parts of the occasion were captured.

In the main conference room the team were required to design and build the conference stage and set, as well as the design and operation of the lighting and the sound systems. Revelation's on-site technicians were responsible for these elements whilst also ensuring the seamless running of the presentations. Gobos were created by Revelation pre-event and presented as part of the stage design, along with digital signage that was designed and displayed throughout the venue.

For each of the break out rooms, Revelation provided a high spec PC that allowed delegates and sponsors to be able to access a BPL website that enabled them to view and book meetings with each other to maximise the networking and business opportunities that arose.

The gala dinner was held in the ballroom for which the team provided lighting and managed the after dinner entertainment, comedian John Culshaw. Then for the finale; a lone piper walked up the centre of the room and onto the stage in front of the curtains and then the curtains opened to reveal an entire 16-piece pipe band.

Results

BPL were extremely happy with the outcome of the conference and considered it a huge success.

"I want to pass on our thanks for a wonderful effort at Gleneagles last week. The entire team appreciated the effort the crew put into the event and in particular the overall management over the three days." Events & operations manager, BPL Business Media

New Projection Techniques   Hot new projection techniques

Revelation has recently been involved in a number of projects using a high end Digital Light Processing (DLP) projector. With these projects and a strong supply chain we are well placed to consult and supply hi end projection and LED screen technology.

The images can be projected onto anything (including the ice in the recent hit TV programme 'Dancing on Ice'!) and because the image is projected in Hi Def DLP the quality of the image is superb and the colours are really enhanced.
