Morning Advertiser - Best Pub Awards 2006

Background

The Morning Advertiser, published by William Reed, is the number one title for the licensed trade in England and Wales and has long been considered the pub trade’s favourite newspaper. The Morning Advertiser Best Pub Awards are designed specifically to reward excellence across a range of disciplines. There are 19 different categories to enter and pubs across the country have a chance to win with one lucky overall winner receiving the ultimate accolade – the Morning Advertiser Pub of the Year. In addition the event also recognises pub chefs across the county, so included the Pub Chef Awards.

Solution

Revelation event management organised and produced last year’s event which was held at the Park Lane Hilton, London. This year the event had gone through significant growth and as such required a much larger venue. As a result Old Billingsgate Fish Market was chosen as the award ceremony venue.

As event production company for the Morning Advertiser Best Pub Awards, Revelation was responsible for set design and event design for the event. This included organising the VIP bars, pre drinks area, main stage area, after show party, catering layout for the kitchens and power distribution to numerous locations throughout the venue including the bars and kitchen areas.

One of the main challenges of this event was the conversion of the empty venue, which can be likened to an empty warehouse; into the glamorous, plush occasion of an award ceremony…Revelation achieved this by star cloth drapes, stunning lighting effects, glamorous table centres & dramatic music production.

In addition to music production, Revelation also produced the award ceremony presentation content and created a video introduction sting featuring the sponsor logos and event logo. A video shoot pre-event for the Pub Chef Awards was also carried out, and Revelation organised the shooting, editing and production of this video, which was shown on the night. Finally, Revelation also liaised with the celebrity entertainment, Al Murray, Pub Landlord Comedian.

The event design had to keep within strict budget guidelines and advice was offered to William Reed on how best to achieve this. A functional stage was set up which was required to include sponsor branding, event branding, a lectern position with autocue and the ‘grab and grin’ area for award winner photographs.

Results

Revelation has been William Reed’s event partner for 4 years, and this is the second time Revelation has staged this event. Revelation is also booked to stage next year’s event. The event was considered to be a HUGE success, by both William Reed and the delegates who attended the award ceremony. The awards had a record number of delegates this year and based on this year’s success, the plan is to take the Pub Chef Awards out of the Best Pub Awards and give them their own award ceremony.
