dmg World Media - Gastech 2008

Background
dmg World Media are one of the worlds biggest global exhibition and conference organiser. Gastech was bought from Turret Rai 4 years ago by dmg and is controlled by the energy sector of dmg that is growing rapidly. Gastech is an international conference and exhibition designed to bring the commercial and technical gas worlds together.
This year was the 23rd Gastech conference and exhibition, which for the first time was held at Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre. The event attracted a record breaking 11,500 visitors, spread across the conference that presented more than 100 key industry speakers and an exhibition that included more than 5000 registrants and over 250 companies exhibiting.
Solution
Revelation have worked on Gastech since 2002 when it was managed by Turret Rai and this experience has been invaluable since dmg appointed Revelation conference production company for the event.
In addition to producing the conference element of the event and managing the AV on the exhibition floor, Revelation also adopted a consultative role. In this position they were required to produce technical briefs for suppliers to quote on as well as researching potential companies in Bangkok to approach for a pitch.
Revelation collated the initial quotes and then travelled out to Thailand to meet the prospective tendering companies and evaluate their tendered responses. Their approach was scored based on a number of key criteria set by Revelation event management. The responses were reviewed and then companies were invited to submit a revised response. A recommendation on who to appoint was then given to dmg.
The visit to Thailand was also a perfect opportunity to visit the venues and to speak to the venue team.
Once dmg had appointed the local AV contractors, their day to day management was Revelation's responsibility both in the lead up to the event and on-site. As well as providing reliable UK based technical crew to facilitate the smooth running of the conference programme, Revelations own team also helped with the induction of new dmg staff in the lead up to the event.
Revelation supplied a venue producer for each of the three conference streams plus technical crew to operate the equipment. The three conference streams had show computers that were network linked to the speaker preview room that was provided and managed by Revelation and also consisted of five PC's networked together. This allowed the streams to download the latest PowerPoint presentation for that room as soon as it had been checked by the presenters.
As part of Revelation's role they were also responsible for looking after AV equipment on the exhibition floor. This included four delegate refreshment areas that consisted of a large 3 x 3 plasma wall (nine 42" screens in total on each plasma wall) and an audio PA. The opening ceremony video and audio was sent down to the exhibition show floor via a fibre optic cable and then split and sent to each plasma wall.
Revelation also liaised with Gas TV who capture the events live onto camera to be played on these screens and also to be streamed via the web post event. This involved communicating with the dmg marketing department to understand their aims and objectives as well as ensuring Gas TV had the resources needed onsite from the AV company to capture the presentations.
Results
The project was a huge success and Revelation have become an integral part of the events team of dmg. They are already heavily involved in the planning of the 2009 event which is returning to Abu Dhabi.
"Everything Revelation does is exceptional...I just want to say thank you to all the team for their sterling work and for helping to make this Gastech the most successful to date." Conference Manager, GASTECH.
